College Division I Premier Schedule Released
The new elite collegiate competition is one step closer to launch as USA Rugby releases the 2011 College Division I Premier Championship schedule.
BOULDER, Colo. – The inaugural season of USA Rugby’s Division I Premier Championship will kick off on March 5 with a slate of games that includes long-time rivals BYU and Utah facing off in Salt Lake City and California visiting San Diego State.
The regular season for the new 31-team competition will run through April 30. Post-season play starts on May 7 with the top two teams from each conference advancing to the playoffs. The championship final will be played on May 21.
Each team will play one game against each of the other teams in its conference. Most schools will play single-game weekends with Cal, BYU and Utah each playing one two-match weekend.
BYU will visit Colorado and Air Force on the weekend of March 19. Cal will play at UCLA and Claremont on the weekend of April 2. Utah will travel to Colorado State and Wyoming on the weekend of April 23. Specific dates for those matches will be announced as soon as they are confirmed.
The Premier Championship is designed to raise the level and exposure of intercollegiate rugby by creating an elite national competition.
USA Rugby views this competition as an opportunity to broaden the appeal of rugby through a true national competition featuring the country’s elite men’s rugby programs and to create an intercollegiate pathway for players with international ambitions.
