Texas is now a “GU”

*** NOTE:

The TRU has a new official designation.  The Texas Rugby Union is no longer refered to as a “Local Area Union”.  Texas has been given pilot program status as a USA recognized “Geographic Union”.

USA Rugby has designated three governing bodies with GU status being: Texas, New England and Southern Cal.  More GU’s will be rolled out next competitive cycle.

* Note:  USA BOD had an emergency meeting after the originally scheduled meeting and added Northeast as a 4th GU for this cycle.  Basically taking the NE Territory and making it into two GU’s.

With this change, the TRU is no longer a full member of the Western Rugby Football Union.  Our membership status has changed to “affiliate” member status.  We will still continue our administrative and competitive relationship for the upcoming competitive cycle.

USA Registration for all TRU members will be changing accordingly.  Most importantly there are three major items of note:

1. Individuals will no longer pay West Dues

2.  Individuals will now pay a large GU fee which will primarly go towards the hiring of a part time staff person who will be working for our benefit but will be employed by USA Rugby.

3.  Clubs will no longer pay Member Dues (Club / Referee) to the Union.  Dues will now be paid on an individual member basis.  Thus, the Unions budget will now be spread over roughly 3,000 individuals rather than 55 plus member clubs.

With the changes above, the TRU has temporarily closed CIPP registration for one week so that USA can make the appropriate changes to their system.  See notification for 2011-2012 CIPP registration under separate cover.
