Al Caravelli to lead ARC Coaching 7s Camp – Sep 22nd & 23rd

The Allied Rugby Conference, in conjunction with World Rugby Shop, is happy to announce that former USA Eagles 7s coach Al Caravelli will lead an ARC 7’s coaching camp Sept. 22 & 23 on the beautiful campus of Sam Houston State University. Executive Co-Director Johnny Smith states this is all part of the ARC mission; “Coach Development is key to improving our standard of play in the region. Having someone such as Coach Caravelli can only serve to help us meet that goal.” He continued, “With most of our member clubs venturing into a 7s competition for the 1st time, this camp will springboard their programs forward.” Conference Commissioner Kenneth Forehand feels this type of event is what the ARC is all about. “The ARC camp is important in that it shows our commitment to elevating the level of 7s, and rugby in general, in our area. Having Coach Caravelli allows us to have access to international level coaching locally and lets players and coaches be in contact with someone who has coached at the top level. It is invaluable.”

The camp will cover 2 days with Saturday open for registration to the general public and Sunday reserved for ARC member clubs. The Saturday portion of the camp will be 40% classroom theory, tactics, practice/game/season planning strategies; 60% on field sessions using player groups from the ARC for demonstration purposes. Executive Co-Director Craig Coates explains the split: “There was little discussion amongst the Conference Advisory Board as to whether or not we should open the camp. Our goal is to raise the standard of rugby throughout the region, not just in the ARC, so with that thought in mind it was determined that non-ARC members should have access to the camp.” There will be a $75 early registration fee for non-ARC members but that gets you a full day with Coach Caravelli, lunch and a goody bag sponsored by World Rugby Shop. Coates feels that is a pretty good bang for your buck. “The caliber of expertise Coach Caravelli possesses is not in Texas every day, so that alone should be worth the price of admission.” Coach Caravelli is very excited about being a part of growing and improving the quality of 7s in Texas; “I am thrilled that the Allied Rugby Conference, comprised of such quality institutions & the founding members of Baylor University, Oklahoma University, Sam Houston State University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, and The University of Texas have the foresight to aggressively pursue raising the quality of rugby in their respective teams & the communities, cities & the state of Texas that they serve. I’m honored that they have asked me to be on hand to assist them in their coaching clinic on the 22nd & 23rd of September.

We are all excited & very much looking forward to a successful event.”If you are interested in attending the camp, you may register at http://www.t5andahalf.com/Allied_Rugby_Conference.html. If you have questions regarding the camp,
