Eligibility: This is the entry or introductory level course. Must have current CIPP [www.usarugby.org] and completed Rugby Ready Certificate [www.irbrugbyready.com].

Approximate delivery time: 8:30am – 4:30pm.  We will be working through lunch [lunch and refreshments will be provided.]

Cost: $50.00 paid online at USA rugby web site.

Certification: Current USA Rugby membership, including registration as a referee, attend and participate in all course modules, pass online law exam and rugby ready exam prior to course, and complete short safety quiz administered at course site.  Course certification is required for anyone who desires to referee ANY match that could potentially lead to a National Championship at any level.
 
Description: The Level 1 Course is the basic referee course. It covers the referee’s priorities, provides an introduction to the Laws of the game, risk management as well as examining scrums, rucks/mauls, tackles, line-outs, offside and advantage with focus on the critical aspects of the game and how to referee them. The course does not go through the Laws of the game page by page.

Attire: Attendees will need to wear comfortable clothing suitable for both classroom and on the field practical sessions.

Notes: Students are encouraged/required  to complete the online law exam prior to the course. Go to http://www.irblaws.com – once successfully completed, please print and bring the IRB Certificate with you to the course. This will count as completion of the exam requirement, the participants will still be required to complete an in class safety exam. Students are also required to complete rugby ready and bring the certificate to the course with them as well.

Course Registration, Cost and CIPP: The cost is $50.00. Registration can be accomplished on-line. AFTER REGISTERING, PLEASE FORWARD THE CONFIRMATION EMAIL TO THE COURSE EDUCATOR (Traci Schmidtke, tschmidtke@texasrugbyunion.com) include your name, email address and phone number.
