HARC Looks to Expand Coaching Staff

HARC RugbyHARC (Houston Athletic Rugby Club) is growing their coaching squad, and have openings available. Time commitments are a minimum of (1) hour/week, maximum (20 weeknight practices and games on Saturdays, travel as required. HARC has two men’s teams (DI/DIb) and one women’s team (DI), which compete in the Red River Rugby Conference at the senior level. While a great track record is always welcomed – commitment, enthusiasm, intelligence and a love of the game are key traits they are seeking.

HARC has opportunities for the following:

Head coach (men): to develop group of rugby players with a range of skills into two cohesive sides, and plan strategy to increase competitiveness within the conference with help of Assistant Coach. Ideal candidate will welcome newcomers/social players while challenging high performance players, and allocate resources between both.

Assistant coach (women): to reinforce core rugby skills and lead training occasionally in absence of head coach. Must be able to coach newbies and develop more seasoned players. Preference to coaches with experience playing or coaching the back line.

Backs coach (men/women): to teach styles of rugby to back lines with experience, open to new ideas and tactics.

Forwards coach (men): to teach styles of rugby to forwards, including open play and set pieces.

Strength and conditioning trainer (men/women): to share best practices and techniques for strength and conditioning training, for players to apply while at practices and during personal workouts.

New player coach (men/women): to provide foundation of rugby skills and laws to new players and prepare them for game play.

For those with experience but lacking coaching certification with USA Rugby, HARC can provide assistance with getting certified. Stipends and reimbursement of expenses are available for committed coaches.
