The 2018 TRU All Star Challenge weekend has come to a close and by all accounts it was a tremendous success! The expanded event included four women’s teams and two men’s teams at Prairie Park in Grand Prairie, TX.

The weekend began with the hosts, the TRU All Stars facing off against unknown Capital Rugby. Both teams boasted varied rosters with players from club and college clubs. In the end, TRU was victorious as they starved Capital of the ball and piled on 46 points to Capitals 16.

The second match of the day was the sole men’s match and it featured the Dallas Reds against Stars Rugby. The Reds came out strong from the start and defeated a young Stars squad 44-22.

The third and final match of the day featured returning Mid-America and they faced a tough Stars team. MARFU found their stride quickly and broke out to an early lead and the Stars couldn’t catch up. Final score was MARFU 52 Stars 7.

Day two brought more exciting matchups as MARFU and Capital did battle. This was the closest match of the weekend and it was a gritty physical battle. Eventually MARFU pulled away winning 42-30.

The last match of the weekend saw a spirited Stars side score early but the TRU couldn’t be stopped. The TRU backline of mostly Houston players was blazing fast and they piled on tries for a final score of 32-5.

View event tournament rosters here. Plans for 2019 are already in the works and we hope you’ll join us! We are looking to mimic the old ITTs or NASCs so the focus is on geographical union or local area union teams but we’re open to individual clubs or touring sides attendance as well. Our goal is to expand to six or eight teams, so please reach out to Wendy Young if interested.

All matches were broadcast on the TRU Youtube channel and are available to watch in the archives.
