UT Women host second annual Skills Clinic

UT Skillls Clinic –

The University of Texas Women’s Rugby Club hosted their second annual skills clinic the weekend of September 26-27th. The turn-out increased since last year, totaling 72 players from 6 different Texas clubs. In addition, the clinic had 11 coaches attend.

Stanford University’s Head Coach, Jonathan Griffin, did an incredible job teaching both players and coaches. The interactive drills provided a completely different approach to the fundamentals, and introduced coaching methods unfamiliar to Texas rugby. During the clinic, Coach Griffin instructed the coaches on various activities revolving around skills and active play. The learning was then reinforced when the coaches were given the opportunity to coach their own group of 25 players. The players were divided by experience level, with representatives from all six clubs in each group. The smaller groups gave everyone ample playing time and an amazing learning experience.

Overall, all of the girls and coaches had a great time and improved their rugby skills over the weekend. Additionally, Coach Griffin was pleased with the talent in Texas. The UT Women’s rugby club hopes to continue this tradition, so we can keep playing and improving rugby in Texas.
