USA Rugby Sevens Coaching Course at the University of Texas on May 7, 2011
With the recent inclusion of rugby sevens in the 2016 Olympics the demand for qualified rugby sevens coaches is surging. The University of Texas Rugby Club is hosting a USA Rugby Sevens Coaching Course on May 7, 2011 to help prepare the next generation of rugby sevens coaches.
USA Rugby has named the following instructors for the 7s coaching course on May 9th in Austin, Texas:
Nigel Davies-IRB Licensed Educator
Paule Barford-IRB Licensed Educator
Mark Bokhoven-current sevens player for USA
Official course description from USA Rugby:
The Sevens course is an introduction to the basics of coaching the game of Rugby Sevens derived from USA Rugby and the International Rugby Board (IRB). The course focuses on the key principles of attack and defense within the Sevens game as well as helps differentiate the differences between the 15’s and 7’s game. There is video analysis, group exercises, practice planning and practical implementation. The focus for the coaches is being able to implement the fundamentals of the game to players at all levels.
The one-day course costs $80 before April 22 and $100 after. This course is limited to forty participants and will be followed by a social event on Austin’s historic West 6th Street.
