Please save the date for the Heartland 7s, a West Region National 7s Qualifier in Kansas City scheduled for Saturday July 7th, 2012.
The Heartland 7s will again serve as a West RFU Qualifier for Nationals, and we’d love to have both West RFU and non-West teams join us. 2012 will be our 6th year hosting this event.
Teams planning to attend from out of town: Please note that the MLB All-Star game will be played in Kansas City on July 9th, and area hotels are filling up very quickly. The Qualifier Division will be played as an evening event on the field-turf at the Sporting Kansas City MLS Team’s Training Facility at Swope Park, with the opening round beginning at 3pm on Saturday, and the finals being played under the lights at 10pm.
It’s a long ways to travel for some teams, but KC is a great place to visit in the summertime and this tournament will feature some excellent rugby, at a professional-level facility in the heart of Kansas City. Well worth the trip.
Aspen, KC Blues, Dallas Harlequins, Denver Barbarians, Omaha GOATS, KC Rogues, St. Louis Ramblers, and the Woodlands Exiles all participated in the Premier bracket last year… With the Exiles winning the 2011 title, Chicago Lions winning in 2010, and Aspen winning in 2009.
In addition to the Qualifier/Premier bracket, we’ll have a Men’s Open Division during the day on Saturday, along with a “Friday Night Lights” Boy’s High School Division played on Friday night.
Space in each Division is limited to 12-teams.
