2016 RRRC Qualifier #2 Results – ARPTC & Little Rock Prevail

The second RRRC qualifying 7s tournaments took place last weekend at Gateway Park in Ft. Worth, TX. The finals were plagued with a freak severe weather storm that brought lightening, rain and high winds. The women’s Championship was able to be completed after a momentary delay; ARPTC repeated as the women’s Champion over the Austin Valkyries and booked their ticket to the 2016 USA Rugby National Club 7s Championships.

The aforementioned weather system then caused a delay in play for two hours. After attempting to wait out the storm, the remaining matches were cancelled by the RRRC 7s Directors due to player safety. The RRRC series rules indicate that upon unwillful abandonment of a match, that the team that scores the most points in the tournament shall be declared the winner.

In addition to the weather, the unforeseen withdrawal of the Austin Blacks the evening before the event resulted in Pool B teams receiving the normal 28-0 forfeit score for each match. Even though the Huns were undefeated on the day, their overall points on the day totaled 98 while Little Rock’s scores totaled 106. Little Rock was awarded first place with the Huns coming in second and they are tied in the standings at ten points going into the last qualifier. Third and fourth place went to the Reds and Bonobo respectively.

Twelve points earns an automatic entry for a team, and tournaments are scored as follows:

• First place– 6 points
• Second place – 4 points
• Third place– 2 points
• Fourth place– 1 point

The RRRC receives 2 seeds for their men and women’s sides. Those two sides will represent us at the 2016 USA Rugby Emirates Airline Club 7s National Championships Aug. 13-14.
