2016 RRRC Qualifier #3 Results – Dallas Reds & ARPTC Win!

The last and final RRRC qualifying 7s tournament took place last weekend at Nixon Lane in Austin, TX.

The men’s standings were all tied up between the Austin Huns and Little Rock. Both teams cruised through pool play to move into the the Cup Semi-finals. The Huns topped Lone Star 29-0 while the Dallas Reds upset Little Rock 19-10. The Dallas Reds went on to win the tournament in a thrilling 40-33 final over the Huns. Even with that win, the Reds won’t be heading to Nationals as the Huns take the #1 seed while Little Rock also represents with the #2 seed.

In the women’s competition, ARPTC outscored it’s opponents by an average of 30 points per match and skated unscathed into the final to face the Austin Valkyries again. In previous finals the Valkyries had chipped away at ARPTC but this last one was clinical as the Academy team blanked the Valks 48-0. The Valkyries did enough throughout the series, placing second at every tournament and will join the defending current champions as the second seed at Nationals.

Congratulations to the Huns, Little Rock, ARPTC and the Austin Valkyries as they will represent the RRRC at the 2016 USA Rugby Emirates Airline Club 7s National Championships Aug. 13-14.

Twelve points earns an automatic entry for a team, and tournaments are scored as follows:

• First place– 6 points
• Second place – 4 points
• Third place– 2 points
• Fourth place– 1 point

The RRRC receives 2 seeds for their men and women’s sides. Those two sides will represent us at the 2016 USA Rugby Emirates Airline Club 7s National Championships Aug. 13-14.
