RRRC Championship Reminders – 2018

As we get closer to the 2018 RRRC Championships we wanted to remind teams of a few important items:

  • Quick review of the playoff formats and seeding per division
  • Reminder of the current tie-breaker guidelines
  • Disciplinary recap and reminder about multiple yellow cards
  • “Book” Guidelines

We urge teams to review all included details and we wish everyone good luck as we continue the season.

RRRC Championship Formats

Men’s D1

Upon conclusion of the league season, the top four teams will progress to a single weekend playoff (semi-final and final).

Seeding for the semi-finals will be #1 v #4 and #2 v #3. Matches will be played Friday evening (5/4/18) and Sunday (5/6/18).

Women’s D1

In the result of a tie after all league matches, the top two teams will advance to a single weekend final. Participants will be based on league match standings (#1 v #2). If needed, the match will be played on Sunday.

For 2018 the Austin Valkyries have clinched the top seed and will be our representative at Western Playoffs. There is no need for a playoff at this time.

Men’s D2

The top team from each subdivision (North, Central and South), as well as a 4th “Wildcard” team, will progress to a single weekend playoff (semi-final on Saturday 5/5/18, and final on Sunday 5/6/18). The Wildcard team will be determined as stated under the “Determining Wildcard Teams & Seeding,” below.

Women’s D2

Upon conclusion of the league season, the top two teams in each subdivision (North and South) will participate in the RRRC playoff weekend (semi-final on Saturday 5/5/18, and final on Sunday 5/6/18). Seeding shall be North #1 vs South #2 and South #1 vs North #2 for the semi-final matches, with the winners of those matches advancing to the regional final on Sunday.

Men’s D3

The top team from each subdivision (North, Central and South), as well as a 4th “Wildcard” team, will progress to a single weekend playoff (semi-final on Saturday 5/5/18, and final on Sunday 5/6/18). The Wildcard team will be determined as stated under the “Determining Wildcard Teams & Seeding,” below.

Determining Wildcard Teams & Seeding

The Wildcard Team for the MD2 and MD3 competitions will be the sub-division second place team that has obtained the highest percentage of available competition points. For example:

In the example provided above, the second place team from the North would be the wild card team and the number 4 seed.

Seeding for the 1 through 3 seeds will be based on the same points ratio formula for determining wildcard teams (see table above). Semi-final matches will be #1 v #4 and #2 v #3, although the wildcard team will not play against an opponent from its own sub-division. If this happens, the format would change to #1 v #3 and #2 v #4. In the event of a tie in points, tie breaker rules will be followed.

Tie-Breakers

Ties in the standings based on competitive points only will be broken in the following order:

  1. Head to head matches win loss record
  2. Head to head points differential
  3. Head to head try differential (Tries for less tries against)
  4. Average point differential excluding forfeits of non-common opponents
  5. Aggregate points differential excluding the results of matches against any common opponent that has forfeited to either team
  6. Average number of tries, excluding forfeits (Tries for less tries against)
  7. Most tries scored excluding forfeits
  8. Toss of a coin

Disciplinary

As always, anytime a card is issued the TRU Disciplinary Committee reviews it according to the Disciplinary Procedures.

We specifically wanted to point out multiple yellow cards throughout the season. As provided in the Laws of the Game, a second Yellow Card to the same player in a single match results in a Red Card and carries the same consequence as a Red Card.

A receipt of a third Yellow Card by the same player within a one year period carries the same consequences as a Red Card and each subsequent Yellow Card received by that player carries the same consequences as another Red Card for disciplinary purposes.

Please also note that ALL Disciplinary Rulings once determined are sent to every TRU Club as a public notice. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Disciplinary Director or email the entire Disciplinary Committee.

“Book” Guidelines

The guidelines were posted earlier this month but we’d be remiss if we didn’t include them in our reminders. We urge clubs to review what is to be included in the book, format and general reminders about eligibility.
