- Draft Schedule
- Dodge: We have a draft of all the schedules and you’ve had a chance to review. Does anyone have any questions or concerns?
- Kurylas: The only issue I saw was that Grand Prairie would like to have a MD4 side and Tyler as well.
- Dodge: Ok, this is a bit grey as that is really managed by the TRU. Wendy, how did we determine the MD4 teams again?
- Young: The TRU sent out a survey asking for teams to declare and Grand Prairie didn’t reply.
- Hughes: I created the schedule as a courtesy because we were trying to align with the multiple sides. I can add Grand Prairie in (Tyler is already included) but it means it is 7 teams and would need to be completely reworked.
- Watson: What if we just give one geographic area a BYE?
- Kurylas: Or what if we just do 10 games?
- Hughes: I can do whatever we feel is best.
- Dodge: Can you email the teams and ask if they are willing to do 10 or 12 matches?
- Hughes: Sure.
- Dodge: OK, let’s set some time frames on getting this draft schedule out.
- Hughes: I can finish a reworking of the MD4 North tomorrow and I can also make sure all the teams are in as well.
- Dodge: Ok, let’s get the revised schedule out by August 30 to club presidents and match secretaries. They have until Sep 8 to review and use the match change form to submit any changes. Then the final schedule should be in place shortly after that.
- UPDATED notes about schedule (8/23/2018):
- You are allowed to negotiate with your opponents to make changes to this schedule subject to the following guidelines:
- No Sunday matches may be moved to Saturday. Such changes may be allowed later in the season, depending on the size of the referee pool. Please encourage your members to become active referees, so that we can go back to Saturday-only matches.
- You must use the match Add/Drop form on the TRU website to request all changes. (https://texasrugbyunion.com/administration/addchangedrop-match-form/).
- We cannot schedule more than 15 matches on a single day. Change requests will be considered on a first-come, first served basis, subject to this limitation.
- You will have until 5PM on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, to make requests for changes.
- Kurylas: Travis, I can send out a note about confirmation for the MD4 North to help you out.
- UPDATED notes about schedule (8/23/2018):
- Dodge: Any objection to this procedure or deadlines? None. APPROVED.
- Dodge: Along with sending out the schedule we will urge clubs to find contact info in WTR. What if we also put in the notice that Sunday matches CANNOT be changed?
- Hughes: Yes, I agree. That is really about helping with referee resources.
- Roll Call
- D1W 6 matches
- Dodge: The Quins have requested that we give them the ability to get to 6 matches with Red River league play. That would mean they play the other two teams twice.
- Young: We’ve talked about this before and it just means that all the D1 teams play each other three times. Not ideal but it ensures that all teams have their 6 matches and are eligible for Nationals (#1 seed goes through). I’m working on the schedule and will try to make it as fair as possible but anticipate following home, away and home OR away as the formula.
- Dodge: Does anyone have any objections? None. APPROVED.
- New Business
- MD3 # of matches
- Hughes: Nothing to really make a decision about tonight but some of the MD3 clubs had expressed dismay because they only had 8 matches. Maybe we look at adding a MD3 tournament that would include everyone. Seed it out through the 3 divisions and then they would play teams they never really see. We could even offer points if we wanted. I sourced this idea to all the clubs and everyone liked it.
- Young: I like the idea but the points would be outside of CMS and then it’s manual reporting.
- Dodge: I also have concerns over finding a host, referees and finding a central location.
- Hughes: Right, just an idea that the clubs were talking about. There are lots of details that would have to be worked out.
- Kurylas: In the past we did have a D3 festival in Austin and it was great.
- Dodge: I don’t mind it being done but don’t know if it should be for league points.
- Kolberg: If we want to get league points into it, have the teams play each other three times. Travel is minimal in the North and South. It would really only be Central that would have some travel.
- Watson: I agree, three matches would be captured in CMS and it would get them more matches.
- MD3 Championship
- Hughes: Another concern the MD3 have had is wanting a 6 team playoff instead of 4. There is a proposal out there and I can write it up so everyone can digest it. With the three divisions the teams don’t feel that they are all getting a fair chance with the current wild card situation.
- Dodge: OK, I do think we’d want to see that in writing and see how it would fit in the schedule.
- Hughes: Ok, I will talk to all the teams again and get something in writing.
- MD3 # of matches
- Meeting adjourned (8:35 PM)
- Watson: I move we adjourn.
- Hughes: Second.
