TRU COVID-19 Return to Play Update – June 24, 2020

The TRU remains in Stage 3 under the USA Rugby Return to Play Guidelines.  Stage 3 means, among other things, no contact rugby.  THERE ARE NO SANCTIONED TOURNAMENTS OR COMPETITIONS AT THIS TIME.  USA Rugby accident and liability insurance does not apply to any injuries from contact rugby.  TRU members are strongly discouraged from attending unsanctioned tournaments and other contact rugby competitions, and organizers of such competitions may be subject to suspension from membership and participation in USA Rugby.  As a reminder, all USA Rugby members agreed to comply with USA Rugby and local union rules and regulations when registering with USA Rugby.  This includes the USA Rugby Return to Play Guidelines.

The TRU Return to Play Task Force has been monitoring changes in applicable state guidelines.  Unfortunately, with COVID-19 positive test rates and hospitalizations moving in the wrong direction in most TRU states, there have been no material changes.   For example, the State of Texas Minimum Standard Health Protocols for Outdoor Sports Activities, last updated on June 9, 2020, state:  “Individuals may engage in outdoor sports, provided that the sports do not include contact with other participants, and no more than ten participants play the sport at any time.”

Please be a responsible member of the rugby community and society, and help keep yourself and those you come into contact with safe by complying with the Guidelines and state social distancing rules.  There will be rugby again, but we’ll get there faster if we do what’s necessary to slow the spread of the virus.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
