Description

Aug 29, SATURDAY COURSE –  This is for individuals who are coaching, in any capacity, forms of rugby that involve tackling. Minimum age 18. Clubs must have at least one coach qualified to be considered a ‘compliant’ club.

This in-person course focuses on player welfare and the technical skills needed to play safely. Coaches will learn and demonstrate effective techniques, including teaching through games, developing skills through progressions, and working collaboratively. Participants should wear activewear, as they’ll be up and moving throughout the day. The course runs approximately eight hours.

  • Note: Participants must wear activewear, as you will be up and moving throughout the day. A dedicated lunch break will be provided during the course, and there are plenty of excellent dining options located nearby around the hotel area.

What’s Included in Your Registration:

  • Full access to the 8-hour certification course.
  • A celebratory 55th Anniversary TRU Union Coin.
  • Access to the Friday Night Welcome Social.
    • Note: The host hotel offers a complimentary evening reception with drinks and snacks for all guests booked in our room block. If you choose to stay elsewhere, the welcome social will function as a cash bar.
  • Optional Add-ons: Grab a discounted Hall of Fame Saturday Night Banquet ticket for $100 (regularly priced $125).

Mandatory Pre-Course Work: The course requires you complete several online courses before attending. After completion of the in-person course, the resulting PDF certificates must uploaded to USA Rugby’s Learning Center before certification will be granted. You will not be able to obtain qualification without completing these steps:

  1. Confirm your RX Learning Account: Once confirmed, USAR will officially add you to the course roster and email you further logistical details.
  2. Complete Online Modules & Upload Certificates:
    1. SafeSport (required annually)
    2. Rugby Safety Basics
    3. Introduction to Coaching
    4. Background Check: Before coaching a team, you must complete a background check (required every 2 years). This is auto-generated once you register as a coach in RX. Note: Background checks can take 2–3 weeks to process, so plan accordingly.

Register by Sunday, August 14 to receive all the benefits. Coins will not be included for anyone registering after that date, as we need to place the order in advance. Registration officially closes Friday, August 21.

Registration is limited to one participant per entry to ensure we have accurate attendance information. If you are signing up for someone other than yourself, please email the participant’s full name and registered course to traci@texasrugbyunion.com.
