2024 Gulf Coast Super Regional Recap

The 2024 Gulf Coast Super Regional kicked off with intense matchups across multiple divisions at Burr Field, hosted by the Austin Blacks. We counted ourselves lucky as the weather stayed dry during the playing times, but overnight rains made Sunday’s matches slick and muddy.

Saturday

In the Men’s Division 3 semifinals, the Red River Champions, Austin Blacks, faced off against the Georgia winners, Charleston Outlaws. The Outlaws got off to a hot start but the reigning National Champions worked their way back into the match eventually winning 32-12.

Simultaneously, the Florida contenders, Brevard Old Red Eye, clashed with the Carolinas’ Columbia Rhinos. In a thrilling encounter, Brevard Old Red Eye emerged victorious, overcoming their opponents with a final score of 25-12.

In the Women’s Division 2 semifinals, True South’s Knoxville Minx, the defending National Champion, clashed with Red River’s Dallas Quins. The Minx took control early, leading 19-5 at halftime. Although the Quins mounted a fierce comeback in the second half, scoring 17 points, Knoxville’s lead proved insurmountable. Despite a last-minute surge from the Quins, Knoxville emerged victorious with a final score of 26-22, securing their spot in the finals.

Meanwhile, Florida’s Tampa Bay Krewe faced off against the Carolinas’ Charleston Hurricanes. Tampa Bay Krewe delivered a dominant performance, overwhelming their opponents with a resounding score of 65-8.

The Men’s Division 2 semifinals saw fierce competition between True South’s NOLA and Red River’s HURT. NOLA emerged triumphant, displaying their skill and strategy with a final score of 31-17, securing their place in the finals.

In the second MD2 semifinal, the Florida representatives, Miami Tridents, clashed with the Carolinas’ Atlanta Old White. The Tridents delivered a commanding performance, outclassing their opponents with a score of 36-17, advancing to the finals with confidence and determination.

In the Men’s Division 1 final, it was an epic clash between the reigning champs, the Austin Blacks, and Dallas RFC. Halfway through the game, tensions ran high as Dallas held a narrow lead of 15-17. In the end, Dallas RFC emerged triumphant with a final score of 42-24, seizing the title in a hard-fought contest.

Additionally, the Women’s Division 1 final witnessed a captivating match between RRRC’s Houston sHARCs and Frontier’s Utah Vipers. Utah Vipers displayed exceptional skill and teamwork, securing a decisive victory with a final score of 46-5, clinching the championship title.

As the sun rose on the final day of the 2024 Gulf Coast Super Regional, anticipation filled the air for the remaining championship matches.

In the Men’s Division 3 final, the Red River Champions and defending National Champions, the Austin Blacks, squared off against the Florida Champions, Brevard Old Red Eye. Brevard led most of the match Austin clawed their way back for the win 18-14 to claim the title and return to the Final Four.
