The TRU oversees seven divisions encompassing both competitive and social club senior rugby across regions that include Texas, Shreveport, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Little Rock, Arkansas.

League matches leading up to the USA Club Rugby National Championships usually commence in early November. In addition to these fixtures, clubs also incorporate some social tournaments into their schedules, and the TRU hosts the Mary Graham All Stars (women’s) event during the winter season.

The 2025-26 Men’s Division 1 in the Red River Premiership will feature home and away matches between five clubs. The top two MD1 sides at the end of the regular season will play each other for the Red River Premiership Championship. Should a tie in the point standings exist at the end of the regular season competition, the advancing teams will be determined by the existing Red River Tiebreaker Policy.

 

Playoffs & Seeding

The winner of the Red River Premiership Championship, will advance to the USA Men’s Division 1 Gulf Coast Super Regional on April 25, 2026. The winner of that advances to the Semifinal on the National Finals Weekend (May 15, 2026).

The Women’s Premiership consists of seven clubs split into Division 1 and Division 2. Teams play home and away games within their division, avoiding lower-division sides from multi-side clubs, and also compete in crossover matches between divisions. This format will span multiple years, with home and away games alternating annually for crossovers.

Playoffs & Seeding

At the end of the league season, the top two D1 teams will compete in a Championship final on April 25, 2026, at the Gulf Coast Super Regionals. The bottom two D1 teams will compete in a match at RRRC Championships on April 11, 2026. 

The top two D2 teams will compete on April 11, 2026 at RRRC Championships. 

The team crowned as the Gulf Coast Super Regional Women’s D1 Champion will move forward to the USA Rugby National Playoffs (Semi-finals) on May 15, 2026. The team crowned as the Red River Conference Women’s D2 Champion will advance to the Gulf Coast Super Regional on April 25, 2026.

Texas Rugby Union – 2026 Men’s Division 2 Competition Structure


The Texas Rugby Union Men’s Division 2 competition consists of 8 (eight) teams competing in a single round-robin season. Each club will play every other club once, either home or away, resulting in a seven-match regular season. The  Men’s Division 2 competition will begin in January 2026 and conclude at the end of March 2026. At the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams in the standings will advance to postseason play.

The top 4 (four) teams at the end of the regular season will compete in the Semifinal Round on March 28, 2026, with the higher-seeded teams hosting the lower. The top 4 (four) teams  will be determined by standings points, with tiebreakers applied if necessary. The #1 seed will host the #4 seed, and the #2 seed will host the #3 seed.

The two semifinal winners will advance to the Red River Championships on April 11, 2026 in Durant, Oklahoma. The RRRC champion will then compete in the Gulf Coast Super Regional on April 25th, 2026 in Austin, Texas. If the Men’s Division 2 RRRC champion wins both Round of 8 matches, they will advance to the USA Club National Championships on May 15-17th, 2026

 

The Men’s D3 Competition is divided into North, Central, South, and D1-C (D1 sides with D3 sides) subdivisions. Teams will play home and away matches against others in their subdivision. 

Playoffs & Seeding

The top team from each subdivision will advance to the Red River/TRU Semifinal Round on March 28th, 2026. The two semifinal winners will then move on to the Red River Championship on April 11, 2026.

Semifinal Format – 4

  • Four subdivision winners will compete in the Semifinal Round, with the higher-seeded teams hosting.
  • Subdivision winners will be determined by standings points within each subdivision, with tiebreakers applied if necessary. , with tiebreakers applied if needed.
  • Seeding for the semifinals will be based on weighted average standings points  (Standings Points earned ÷ Maximum Possible Standings Points).
  • The #1 seed will host the #4 seed, and the #2 seed will host the #3 seed on March 28th, 2026, unless otherwise agreed by all 4 playoff clubs to minimize semifinals travel.

The two semifinal winners will advance to the Red River Championship on April 12, 2025. The Red River Champion will then compete in the Gulf Coast Super Regional on April 25th, 2026. If the Men’s D3 Red River Champion wins both Round of 8 matches, they will advance to the National Finals Weekend from May 15-17, 2026.

This Division is designed to be more developmental in nature and really foster the spirit of the game. All WD3 games are able to be played with rolling subs. Extended rosters may be allowed if both teams agree. With the addition of the Allstar CIPP players, at the D3 level may play for other teams if numbers to fulfil a roster are required.

The ladder is calculated by a point ratio. Teams will earn points per win, tie, etc. and the total number of points will be divided by the number of games played. 

The top two teams in the Division will compete at the RRRC Championship in Durant, OK on April 11th. 

The winner of RRC will advance to the first ever Women’s D3 Gulf Coast Super Regional in Austin, TX on April 25th. 

Proposed guidelines and requirements of Gulf Coast Super Regional structure:

All players rostered must be registered with D3 league teams from that union, except for Florida who may bring players from their last place D2 team or Georgia D3 players.

60% of players on the event roster must be from the club which is entered into the event. Here’s the match:

 Teams must bring primary and alternate sets of matching, numbered jerseys. Other kit items may vary. The alternate set does not have to belong to the club which is entered.

All players rostered should have met the 2-match minimum with their home club. Waivers will be considered by the GCSR Committee.

The event roster must have at least 20 players to match the NCS eligibility guidelines (3.3.g).

Unions must confirm with the GCSR Committee that a team will participate in the GCSR no later than 11:59 pm in the union’s local time on April 1. Failure to live up to this commitment shall result in the union paying reimbursement for host expenses up to $1500.

As this is a pilot at GCSR, there will be a consolation match on Sunday to promote the growth of rugby.
