USA Rugby VIPs Attend Houston Fundraiser
HOUSTON – The Houston Rugby community’s first-ever Lost Afternoon Luncheon was a rousing, sell-out success featuring speeches from USA Rugby CEO Nigel Melville, Eagles Coach Eddie O’Sullivan, and Vice Chair Bob Latham.
Thousands of dollars were raised for youth rugby programs in the area, and many “old timers” and ex-pats from Houston’s large international community were energized to reconnect with the game.
Representatives from Houston’s sports and hospitality industry were in attendance and very impressed with the turnout and the program, which featured video clips as well as the main speeches. They included members of the Houston Sports Authority, Convention and Visitors Bureau, the MLS Houston Dynamo, and the NFL Houston Texans.
Coach O’Sullivan spent the week prior to the luncheon in Houston conducting coaching clinics for youth rugby players.
Founded by Malcolm Douglas, the event was emceed by former USARFU Board Member Paul Mabry. The success of the first Lost Afternoon Lunch is sure make it a “must do” event on the local rugby calendar, while serving as a model for similar events in other rugby hotbeds.
