JULY 18th, 2013 – Following their promotion to the TRU Men’s Division I Competition in 2012, The Woodlands Rugby Club have taken the next step in their framework for success by appointing internationally accredited rugby coach, Greg Doolan as their new head coach for the upcoming 2013-2014 season and beyond. Doolan, a native of New Zealand, is an IRB level two accredited coach boasting a resume of Championships and “coach of the year” on multiple occasions. Doolan has played and coached in Canada, South Africa, Australia, Ireland and in the USA. With 25+ years of coaching experience, he is uniquely qualified to aid The Woodlands in their assault on the upper echelon of Division I. Doolan has a long success of winning where ever he coaches. Coupled with several new high profile players, WRFC looks to have an immediate impact competing for the TRU’s top spot and beyond. With the Austin Blacks & Dallas Harlequins occupying the top spots following the 2012-2013 campaign, Doolan faces no easy task.
According to Club President Doug Corrigan, “This appointment is a vital step in a five step plan we laid out several years ago.” Professional rugby is upon us; if clubs cannot accept it they will be left behind. With an internationally proven coach, experienced proven players, and property; The Woodlands Rugby Club is primed to get back on the national stage in a big way.
“We’ve competed (and won) at the highest levels in years past, and we think that Greg can help us do so again”, says Corrigan.
The Woodlands RFC was founded in 1983 and celebrates its thirtieth year this season in a big way.
