The 2022 Mary Graham All Stars will take place December 3-4, 2022 and will return to Prairie Park in Grand Prairie, TX. After five years of this tournament we’re excited to announce that we will have all GU and LAU All Star teams! This has been our goal since inception in 2016 and we want to applaud all the Unions for continuing to focus on Women’s High Performance rugby. Participating teams this year include TRU, Capital, Pacific NW, Midwest (2 teams), Mid-America, South Panthers and Pacific NW U23s.
John Kurylas of Grand Prairie Maverick RFC indicated that their club “is honored and excited to once again host the Mary Graham All Star Tournament this December at Prairie Park. We see this as a great opportunity for the club to be able to give back to the rugby community by hosting one of the premier All Star events in the country.”
We’re also excited to announce that Mary Swanstrom returns as head coach of the TRU program. She would like to open applications for a forwards coach, backs coach, strength & conditioning coach and team manager. Interested parties should send a resume to admin@texasrugbyunion.com by September 10.
Head Coach Swanstrom indicated that “this is a really exciting time for women’s rugby – with the focus of women’s sports internationally and the opportunities ahead of us hosting the world cup in the USA in 2033. The women in these programs have the opportunity to grow and play at the highest level.”
TRU Tryout Camp Information
Tryout camps will be held in October and a warm up event will be held in November before the tournament takes place on December 3-4. More details on tryout camps will be posted very soon.
All TRU club members who are 18 years old (as of December 1, 2022) are eligible to play. College players in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana are welcome as well but must first register as an At-Large player with the TRU. Steps for doing this will be included in the camp and player registration details coming soon.
