2015 RRRC Qualifier #3 Results – Blacks, Reds & ARPTC to Nationals

The last of the three RRRC qualifying 7s tournaments took place this past weekend in Norman, OK. The Austin Blacks and ARPTC won their respective divisions and will move on to the USA Rugby Club 7s National Championships. The Men’s division receives two seeds and second place Dallas Reds will also join the Blacks in Des Moines.

While the Blacks stumbled against the Reds in pool play they were able to overcome Little Rock in the semi-finals to secure their place in the Cup Final. The Cup started quickly with the Blacks going up 25-0 as they capitalized on a few mistakes, the Reds came close to closing the deficit but simply ran out of time, losing 28-21.

Newcomers ARPTC made their presence felt early on and captured the women’s lone seed with only attending two tournaments. The Austin Valkyries only had to make the semi-finals but fell to a feisty Little Rock team which ended their run for Nationals. Austin then faced ARPTC in the semi-finals in a cruel twist of fate and couldn’t overcome them. ARPTC then faced Little Rock in the final and held them at bay, winning 40-0.

Congratulations to the Austin Blacks, ARPTC and the Dallas Reds as they travel to the next round and represent the RRRC/TRU.
